Serie
VOLÁTILES
2011
In the first week of December 2011, to join in with the celebrations that surrounded me, I bought a “Christmas Plant”. That year, I travelled to Israel to celebrate Hanukkah with my family. Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of light, which almost always coincides with Christmas.
When I returned home to Sevilla, I found the Christmas Plant with its leaves dried up and fallen on to the table where it stood. I felt an urge to express this in photographs, through which I aimed to give life to the leaves and to the imagination of the observer. It reminds me of the same creative process and the goal I wanted to achieve with the series “manchandomundo” in 2008-9, but this time with photography.
The series is called “Volátiles”: the dry leaves take flight and are transformed into insects, bird, animals, characters.
Photographs of poinsettia leaves over landscapes Drawing in Indian ink.
Signed limited editions of 75.
I photograph the things that I do not wish to paint,
the things which already have an existence.
